Biotechnology Innovation & Optimization Center
University of Kansas
The Biotechnology Innovation and Optimization Center (BIO Center) provides a centralized focus for moving University technologies into the private sector from pharmaceutical and biomedical research on the both Lawrence and Medical Center campuses. The centralization efforts include the Office of Therapeutics, Discovery, and Development, the Office of Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property, and the Office of Business Relations and Development.
KTEC has funded bioscience research at the University of Kansas since 1989. Prior to the establishment of the BIO Center, the KTEC funds were administered by the Higuchi Biosciences Center (HBC), which pursed the dual missions of enabling multi-investigator basic research grants and development and commercialization.
