President's Message:

Fellow Kansans:

2007 marked a significant year as KTEC celebrated its 20th Anniversary as the state’s leader of technology-based economic development.

Twenty years ago, state leaders had the foresight to create KTEC to promote the development of technology industries in Kansas. Since then, KTEC’s private sector leadership model has adapted its programs to the ever-changing needs of high-growth technology companies and the entrepreneurs leading them.

Throughout the past 20 years, KTEC has assisted countless Kansas entrepreneurs and technology companies by supporting the development and commercialization of new innovations through a statewide network designed and built to support researchers, entrepreneurs and technology companies through each phase of the technology life cycle.

KTEC has also made progress in attracting capital to help fuel growth in Kansas’ early-stage technology companies. These companies have the potential to create high-paying jobs and engaging opportunities to create wealth within the company, as well as a return on investment for Kansas.

In addition, KTEC understands that people are the key success drivers in innovative businesses; therefore, KTEC is committed to investing in the development of people with the potential to lead technology businesses into a more prosperous future.

20 years of KTEC innovation has resulted in:

  • The creation and retention of more than 16,000 high-tech jobs
  • Securing $366 million in private and risk capital to Kansas
  • Investing $15.5 million in Kansas companies
  • Supporting six university-based research facilities
  • Supporting business assistance incubators throughout Kansas
  • The creation of innovative legislation, including the Kansas Economic Growth Act
  • The founding of entrepreneurship programs, including the KTEC PIPELINE and the Entrepreneur in Residence program

Although we cannot easily anticipate the economic and technological challenges we will face in the next 20 years, we can face these challenges with confidence that KTEC has the expertise and strategies to help guide us through them, positioning Kansas for longstanding economic success.

Sincerely,

Tracy B. Taylor
President and CEO
