KTEC Celebrates
20th Anniversary
January 12, 2007 marked
the 20th anniversary of the date that Kansas formally
established the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation
(KTEC). KTEC’s mission on this day in 1987
was the same as it is today: to create and maintain
employment by fostering innovation, stimulating
the commercialization of new technologies and
promoting the creation, growth and expansion of
Kansas enterprises.
KTEC and its affiliated
organizations will celebrate this 20th anniversary
over the next few months as they share with Kansans
the hard numbers and personal anecdotes about
how their collective work adds value to the Kansas
economy.
“KTEC has continued to play
a leading role in laying the foundation for a
vibrant economy by stimulating commercially relevant
research, mentoring high tech entrepreneurs and
nurturing new companies,” said Governor
Kathleen Sebelius. “I am confident that
KTEC will continue to serve as a key catalyst
for mobilizing our technical, human and financial
assets for the benefit of all Kansans.”
“KTEC is focused on ensuring
Kansas is innovative in our approach to growing
technology companies,” said Tracy Taylor,
President and CEO of KTEC. “By continuing
to work on the fundamentals of turning discovery
into businesses, KTEC is creating higher paying
jobs and wealth. Additionally, KTEC continues
to develop important policies to enhance our innovation
economy, such as creating the bioscience initiative
and the KTEC PIPELINE technology fellowship program.”

The
Kansas bioscience community
was again well represented at
the BIO International

May 6-9. KTEC helped by contributing
as a platinum sponsor for this
international showcase.
U.S. Senator
Pat Roberts led the
Kansas delegation that consisted
of more than 100 Kansans and
also included the second
largest public official delegation,
second only to Massachusetts
(the convention host state).
The KTEC PIPELINE Innovators
were present and attended a
Biotechnology Entrepreneurship
Bootcamp where they were able
to demonstrate to attendees
and instructors from Harvard,
MIT and Wharton.
Highlights of the convention
included: Senator Roberts
opening the pavilion floor by
throwing out the “first
pitch,” the bioscience
industry growth awards
reception and lastly Secretary
Adrian Polansky receiving
BIO’s “State Executive
of the Year” award.
Kansas again
made a lasting impression as
a leader in the biosciences
as a “go to” place
for bioscience companies looking
to grow.
KTEC
is looking forward to sponsoring
and again being part of the
Kansas delegation for the 2008
BIO Convention in San Diego,
