Statewide EPSCoR conference to be held Sept. 8

Each year, the Kansas Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) holds a statewide conference to showcase EPSCoR-funded research, foster research collaborations, and discuss topics of importance to researchers and economic development professionals in the state. This year's keynote address and panel discussion will focus on the biosciences and the Kansas Economic Growth Act recently passed by the Kansas Legislature and will feature Rep. Kenny Wilk of Lansing and Sen. Nick Jordan of Shawnee. The conference will be held on Sept. 8 at the KSU Alumni Center on the campus of Kansas State University in Manhattan. The event begins at 8 a.m. and includes a breakfast buffet and lunch. Registration is required but is free of charge. The conference is limited to 150 participants, so register soon and prior to August 27.

KTEC welcomes Shallenburger to board

Tim Shallenburger of Baxter Springs was recently named to the KTEC board of directors by House Speaker Doug Mays. Shallenburger is a former Speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives, former Kansas State Treasurer, and current executive at American Bank in Baxter Springs. He replaces Jim Dahmen of Columbus.


KCCatalyst to offer lunchtime SBIR seminar

KCCatalyst is hosting a "brown bag" lunchtime seminar entitled "SBIR/STTR Federal Research Grants -- Key Issues on How to Set Grant Budgets." This event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, in KCCatalyst's main conference room, located at 2405 Grand Blvd., in Kansas City, MO. The event fee is $10 and includes parking and light refreshments. Please feel free to bring your own "brown bag" lunch to this event.

kozoru completes series A funding

kozoru, a KTEC client company focused on improving Internet search technology, has completed its series A round of funding, led by KTEC's investment of $500,000 in June. Other investors include Senate President Dave Kerr and Michael Brown, co-founder of EuroNet Worldwide (NASDAQ: EEFT).

Kauffman Foundation seeks feedback from entrepreneurs

The Kauffman Foundation is seeking new and experienced entrepreneurs to participate in a survey to identify services that will best meet the needs of small business owners in the Kansas City area. The survey takes only about 10 to 12 minutes, and at the end, participants have the option of entering a drawing for a $500 gift certificate to the Country Club Plaza.
